Admittedly, this website can only showcase less than One Percent of our available inventory. However, over time, this site will expand to represent our business on a grander scale. Our regular customers know this is "the place" for the finest potable products from across the globe!
Our family-run company has been in business for over Six Decades! In 1948, on the famous corner of Commonwealth and Harvard Avenues in Allston, the Siegal family opened the humble "Hi-Grade Liquors." With only an original Twenty-Five foot frontage, "Hi-Grade Liquors" eventually became "Macy's," then "Marty's" with a Two-Hundred-Twenty-Five foot frontage and Twenty-Two-Thousand square feet of retail and storage space.
In 1985, Marty purchased a second location in Newton, Massachusetts with Twenty-Three-Thousand square feet of retail and storage space. Sadly, in 1987, the Allston location was levelled by a fire. The entire staff was relocated to the already fully staffed Newton location while the Allston building was rebuilt. While the fire was a setback in many ways, having additional staff to help the geometrically expanding customer base in Newton was a boon.
With the Allston store reopened, most of its former employees migrating back to the new building, and the Newton store growing still, the Marty's business stayed the course, concentrating on locating the finest and highest quality wines, spirits, beer, and gourmet food available.
In 2009, an excessive rise in rent for the Allston store forced its consolidating with the Newton store once again. History repeating itself, each Allston employee was offered a job in the Newton store, despite the downturning economy. It was a bittersweet experience for everyone involved given the sixty years of history and personal experiences for the Siegal family and their employees. Now Marty's is poised to expand its "brick and mortar" presence once again in conjunction with its foray into cyberspace.
In 2010, Marty's opened a second store, once again in the Allston/Brighton area. By focusing on staff picks and best values, the Marty's Big Buys location features incredible wines, beer, and spirits at equally impressive prices. |
