Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Caymus
Supersaturated deep ruby color. Aromas of ripe, vanilla-tinged black currants and black cherries, roasted coffee beans and exotic spice. In the mouth, a solid core of sweet, dense liquid cassis flavor flows seamlessly from first taste to a long, expansive finish, underscored but never dominated by notes of mocha, spices, vanilla, earth and olives. The wine is dense, with a solid grip, but the tannins remain supple. Sweet oak becomes more apparent on the finish but is always subservient to the lavish fruit.

93 Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2001 $136. A lush textured wine that shows gobs of blackberry, cherry, plum, coffee, spice, herb and anise flavors, all framed in firm, ripe tannins. The finish is long, with a spicy edge. Quite intense and full-on.

Wine Advocate
Like many wines of the vintage, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection has closed down, but it reveals impressive potential. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a veneer of sweet, creamy, toasty oak intermixed with creme de cassis, earth, and spice box characteristics. The wine is structured, full-bodied, pure, and in need of another 1-3 years of bottle age. It should age well for 10-15 years.

Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
